'IF THE INVADER COMES' SUMMER 2011

‘If the Invader Comes’ is a film installation by photographer Dan Dubowitz and choreographer Fearghus Ó Conchúir responding to the Martello Towers of England’s east coast and to the ‘land’s end’ psyche of their coastal communities. ‘If the Invader Comes’ is the second collaboration by Dubowitz and Ó Conchúir that investigates the relationship between people and place. It follows their first joint work, ‘Tattered Outlaws of History’, which was commissioned by Fingal County Council.

Dan Dubowitz trained as an architect at Sheffield University. Following this he developed his practice as an artist using photography in parallel to architectural work and taught at architecture and fine art faculties in UK universities. In 2003, Dan established Civic Works, which led to a number of permanent and temporary city-scale artworks in public places including ‘The Peeps' and 'The Cutting Room' in Manchester and ‘Searchlight’ in Sunderland

Fearghus Ó Conchúir is an independent choreographer and dance artist. He completed degrees in English and European Literature at Magdalen College Oxford, before training at London Contemporary Dance School. His work explores the relationship between bodies and buildings in the context of urban regeneration, though film and in live performance, including Dialogue, a collaboration with Chinese dance artist Xiao Ke, performed for the Shanghai World Expo, and Mo Mhórchoir Féin, a dance film commissioned for RTÉ’s Dance on the Box series.
