Stag Becomes Eagle

Artists: juneau/projects/
Location: Aveley Marshes, Thurrock, Essex

‘Stag Becomes Eagle’ was an afternoon of live music and video presented by juneau/projects/ at the Royal Society for the Protection of Bird’s reserve at Aveley Marshes - the largest remaining expanse of wetland bordering the Thames estuary. Working with local young people, ‘Stag Becomes Eagle’ reflects the area’s unique combination of housing estates and rural marshes.

As well as the live concert, a trail of banners, sculptures, videos and other interventions encouraged visitors to the event to explore the marshes and learn more about the reserve’s wildlife and environment. A publication and CD that documents songs recorded by young people in a makeshift portable recording studio were also given to visitors.

Commissioned by Thurrock Council as part of Arts Generate, ‘Stag Becomes Eagle’ was developed in collaboration with the RSPB and Commissions East.
