Artist: Kirsten Lavers
Location: Arbury Park, Cambridge
Kirsten Lavers was appointed as neighbourhood artist for Orchard Park (formerly Arbury Park). Her role was to initiate, develop and lead a programme of projects that involving the new residents of Orchard Park and existing residents from the surrounding area. Referencing Patricia Mackinnon-Day's public art strategy for the site, the programme offered a creative approach to the process of place making and neighbourhood integration.
Lavers undertook a number of projects as part of her programme of activity. She worked in collaboration with artist, Mark Dixon to create 'Network VIII', a projects where the residents of the then 200 occupied homes in Orchard Park were each given a 'Conversion Star,' an interactive star responding to wireless activity, to hang in the exterior window. For 'Do_It_Ourselves Roadsigns' Lavers held workshops for the residents to create and instal temporary personalised roadsigns.
