In 2006 Commissions East assisted The Davy Down Trust and Thurrock Council to appoint artist Lucy Casson to create an entrance feature and signage for Davy Down Country Park, situated in the Mardyke Valley.
The Park comprises 32 acres of wetland and meadow, and retains a rich heritage in the form of an impressive viaduct and the Stifford Pumping Station. A network of footpaths, boardwalks and seating areas provide visitors with the opportunity to enjoy the area.
Working with those who use and work on the site, Lucy Casson created four sculptures. three foxes and a heron, which enhance the site and familiarise the local community wiht the wildlife that lives in the area. Made form recycled materials, Lucy used humour and observations of people, animals and environments as the inspiration for her work. The artist also designed two identical entrance signs for the site.
The project was commissioned by The Davy Down Trust and managed by Commissions East, with funding from Thurrock Council.
