Lightworks

Artist: Charlie Holmes
Location: King’s Lynn Arts Centre

Artist Charlie Holmes produced projects for seven buildings in King’s Lynn Old Town. One of these buildings was the Customs House, where lighting effects reflected the ebb and flow of the tide and emphasised links with the sea. Other sites included the museum, a grain silo and buildings surrounding the historic Tuesday Market Place. Through a combination of subtle and more overt interventions, including video, slide projection and ambient lighting, the public was encouraged to re-examine both the well known and hidden buildings of King's Lynn.

‘Lightworks’ was opened on Halloween by the Mayor who led a procession of several hundred local residents through the town cente. The project, which gained widespread publicity, attracted a large audience and focused public interest on the unique architectural and historic qualities of the area.
