'RSVP: Contemporary Artists at the Foundling' like 'Stay at the Great Eastern Hotel' was initiated by Commissions East with the aim of supporting artists from the Eastern region and presenting their work to new audiences.
Fifteen invited artists were commissioned to create works inspired by the impressive spaces of the Foundling Museum and its inspirational art and social history collections. The exhibition that ran from 28 September to 18 November 2007 resonated with the Foundling Museum's history of providing a centre for experimentation and showcase for artists in the 18th Century.
The Foundling's collection includes major works by Hogarth, Gainsborough and Reynolds, and also incorporates an international Handel Study Centre and gallery.
RSVP: Contemeporary Artists at the Foundling was part of Escalator Visual Arts, an initiative funded by Arts Council England, East.
