Artists: Simon Fenoulhet
Location: Wymondham Abbey, Norfolk
In 2007, artist Simon Fenoulhet was commissioned to create a light and sound installation for Wymondham Abbey’s ruined East Tower as part of the Abbey’s 900th anniversary celebrations and Contemporary Art Norwich 07.
Local groups, spectators and performers were invited to enjoy the transformation of the tower after dusk throughout August and September. Working in partnership with John Hardy Music, Simon Fenoulhet’s interactive installation, ‘Beacon,’ responded to the sounds and activities of visitors, flooding the tower with coloured light and transforming the appearance of the famous Norfolk landmark.
‘Beacon’ was commissioned by South Norfolk Council and Wyndham 900 and managed by Commissions East with funding from Arts Council England East and Norfolk County Council.
